PRESENTED BY OPENING NIGHTS PERFORMING ARTS AND THE ASKEW STUDENT LIFE CINEMA
Joanne Hock’s feature documentary film Purple Dreams is coming to Florida State University’s Student Life Cinema as part of the Southern Arts Southern Circuit Film Tour. This film challenges African American youth stereotypes as a film crew documents a team of students transform through the power of arts education.
Part of the South Arts Southern Circuit Film Tour, Purple Dreams is an extraordinary arts education story following high school students on a three-year journey of transformation. Struggling with homelessness, low-income neighborhoods, gang-related violence, and single-parent households, these students broaden their world through a triumphant musical production that ultimately propels them into a world of opportunity previously beyond their reach.
Dave Gussak, PhD, ATR-BC from FSU’s Department of Art Education will moderate a Q&A after the screening with filmmaker Joanne Hock.
