The FSU Art Therapy Program faculty and students will be participating in the upcoming Florida Art Therapy Association State Conference. The cruise conference will depart from Miami on Feb 7, 2014 and make stops in The Bahamas at Nassau and Great Stirrup Kay before returning to Miami on Feb 10, 2014.
Two graduate art therapy students, Rachel Mims and Meredith McMackin, will be presenting at the conference. Rachel will conduct a workshop titled, Art Journal Swapping for Self-Care, detailing the journal swap project she facilitated for her student cohort at FSU. Rachel will also conduct a workshop with Meredith titled, Papermaking as a Trauma Intervention for Veterans with PTSD. They will offer an exploration of how to use papermaking as a therapeutic intervention. This presentation is based on a workshop conducted in the summer of 2013 for the veterans residing at Veterans Village in Tallahassee. In addition to the two student presenters, several other graduate art therapy students will participate in the conference.
Two Art Therapy Program faculty, Dr. Marcia Rosal and Dr. Dave Gussak, were invited to be honored speakers at the conference. Dr. Rosal will be speaking on the use of the art museum as a tool in art therapy. Dr. Gussak will be speaking about his recently published book Art on Trial: Art Therapy in Capital Murder Cases.
