2013 New Faculty Hires

Jeff BeekmanJEFF BEEKMAN

Research interests: Art, Art Theory & Design

Beekman will serve as director of the BA and Foundations Programs within the Department of Art. Coming to us most recently from the Foundations program at the University of Oklahoma, he is very excited to be returning home to Florida, where he was born and raised.

Research interests: Social practices, presumption, and collaborative authorship

Julietta Cheung is an artist, writer and designer. Originally from Hong Kong, she spent most of her life in New York and moved to Tallahassee earlier this month from Chicago. She is very interested in exploring Florida’s outdoor life but she is equally keen on avoiding alligators.

 

Joelle DietrickJOELLE DIETRICK

Department of Art
University of California, San Diego – MFA

Research interests: Art with a focus on digital media & painting

Dietrick’s paintings and animations explore contemporary nesting instincts and evolve from her time living abroad in the UK, Germany, Italy, China and Bahrain.

Research interests: art therapy, mental health, rehabilitation and counseling

Theresa recently moved from Melbourne, Australia. Her research interests so far have focused on the use of art therapy in the mental health recovery process with people who have ongoing and complex mental illness.

 

Doron BauerDORON BAUER

Department of Art History
Johns Hopkins University – PhD

Research interests: Medieval & Islamic art 

Bauer studies medieval and Islamic art and is interested in developing new frameworks for understanding material culture in Western Mediterranean and the Middle Eastern societies. He loves the desert and the sea and usually spends summers researching in Israel, France, and Spain.

 

 

Amy HuberAMY MATTINGLY HUBER

Department of Interior Architecture + Design
Colorado State University, M.S.

Research interests: creativity, design process, design pedagogy 

Amy grew up in Missouri and prior to teaching she worked as a corporate designer in Denver, Colorado.  She will be teaching design technology and environmental psychology courses here at FSU.

 

Rodger BelmanRODGER BELMAN

School of Dance
University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee – MFA

Research interests: Choreography, performance, site-specific works, community based/intergenerational choreography

Belman recently accepted an invitation to perform and create a new work for the Vortex Festival in Brittany, France this December. He will perform his most recent work, which premiered at the American Dance Festival, and will create site-specific work at a factory in France.  He previously served as a visiting professor here at FSU.

 

Goldman_IlanaILANA GOLDMAN

University of Washington, MFA

Research interests: Choreography, community dance, dance and film, site specific dance

After being told she was too tall to become a ballet dancer, Ilana Goldman decided to attend The Juilliard School to study modern dance. Ironically, her first full time job was with a ballet company and she continued to dance with classical and contemporary ballet companies for 10 years, touring around the country and internationally, before attending graduate school at the University of Washington.

 

JONATHAN EPSTEIN

School of Theatre, Asolo Conservatory
Harvard University, BA

Research interests: Shakespeare performance, modern theatre, stagecraft, actor training, stage direction & design 

Epstein is married to actress Ariel Bock and they have three boys – the eldest is a screenwriter in Hollywood, the second is a painter and skateboarder in New York, and the youngest is a junior in high school. When Jonny is not teaching, directing or performing he is a builder of high-end golf clubs for elite-level players, and an avid (but not elite) player himself.
