Last Friday, August 29th, the Graduate School conducted the Academic Integrity Workshop in the William Johnston Building. This workshop was for all incoming graduate students of the Department of Art Education.

This year we had presenters Dr. Lisa Liseno of the Graduate School and Holly Hunt of the Division of Undergraduate Studies. Dr. Lisa Liseno is the Assistant Dean of the Graduate School and she is also the Director of the Program for Instructional Excellence and of The Fellows Society. Holly Hunt is of the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) within the Division of Undergraduate Studies and serves as an instructor for SLS 1122: Strategies for Academic Success within FSU’s ACE.

Within the workshop, the presenters reviewed in depth the FSU Academic Honor Policy as well as the FSU Academic Honor Pledge. They discussed the importance of both the policy and the pledge; emphasizing the value that Florida State places upon academic integrity, values and morals. Dr. Lisano and Holly Hunt brought up the eight possible violations of the Academic Honor Policy, and engaged the students in explaining each one. These eight violations include:

  • plagiarism
  • cheating
  • unauthorized group work
  • fabrication
  • falsification and misrepresentation and multiple submissions
  • abuse of academic materials
  • complicity in academic dishonesty
  • attempting

In addition to discussing the eight Policy violations, the instructors also explained Students Rights in the appellate process if any situation were to arise. Overall the presenters were very engaging and the workshop was considered a success.
