ARE 4930 Course Recap

Published May 2, 2016

This semester, the students in Intro to Arts Administration (ARE 4930) planned and executed several exciting projects benefiting and raising awareness about some important causes while gaining practical experience. Section 1 Group A gathered on Union Green on April 6th to host Splash the Stigma Away; a project in support of the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI). Participants wrote mental illness stigmas on canvas then threw paint-filled balloons at the canvas with the goal of “releasing the hold on whatever they wrote down.” This project was in accordance with the missions of NAMI Tallahassee and NAMI FSU  promoting awareness of mental health issues.

Section 1 Group B also took advantage of Market Wednesdays and hosted their event on April 13th. They promoted Sustainable Tallahasee , an organization who aims to create a sustainable community “through education, networking, and promoting ‘the green industry.'” This group created a photo booth from recycled materials and created the hashtag #sustainanole to promote and document their event.

Students in Section 2 worked with Aging with Dignity and hosted events on April 6th and 13th. Their event featured a wishing well activity designed to demonstrate the mission of Aging with Dignity of keeping individual’s dignity and wishes alive. Students in this group also passed out flyers, buttons, pens, and interactive brochures to promote their cause.

By planning and executing these projects, students gained valuable experience and learned about how Arts Administration can benefit the community.
