Dr. Tom Anderson, a Professor of Art Education at Florida State University,  developed a website to collect “selfies” from many people, asking for a short statement about their socially conscious selfie photo. The purpose of the Socially Engaged Selfie Site: A Virtual and Physical Exhibition for Developing Sense of Self, Place and Community is to begin to contract a sense of place and community beyond just one individual. Dr. Anderson captured precious moments spent with family and friends, community, traveling the world, and matriculation through the years in photographs.

“My assumption is that the collective images and statements will give us a fairly comprehensive picture of community and the concerns at least of the community participating on this site. Also having the potential top contribute to this community construction is a blog discussion board, on which I hope you will engage in dialogue with each other particularly about how this site can promote activity that addresses and goes beyond (the typical?) narcissistic and myopic imagery associated with selfies.”
