Salary Information

Salary negotiable based upon qualifications, education, and experience.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

  • A doctorate degree in Art Education or a closely related field
  • An established record of published research
  • Extensive knowledge in K-12 teaching, research, and service

Responsibilities

The selected candidate will perform teaching, research, and service activities in art education. Candidate will be expected to teach graduate-level art education courses, and do thesis and dissertation committee work, when qualified, as well as possibly supervise student teachers. The appointee will have additional responsibilities including research, committee work, curriculum development, service to the university and community, and professional activities in art education that are consistent with departmental expectations.

Department

The Department of Art Education maintains a strong commitment to the philosophy of art for life and especially social justice issues.  It is the oldest department of its kind in the Southeast and one of the elite art education departments in North America, and has recently become solely a graduate program department. The department is accredited through both NCATE and NASAD. The department offers master’s degrees in art education, arts administration, and art therapy and the doctorate in art education with specializations in art education, arts administration, art therapy, and museum education and exhibitions.  The department recently moved into a newly renovated, state-of-the-art, LEED-certified facility with the Departments of Interior Design and Art History from the College of Visual Arts, Theatre and Dance.
