The Department of Art Education would like to congratulate Arts Administration Master’s student Marit Evans and Doctoral student Juyeon Song on being awarded at the Florida Arts & Culture Day by the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs!
Award winner Marit Evans with Associate Dean Dr. Scott Shamp
Marit Evans had the following to say about her experience:
Being recognized with the Certificate of Recognition for Advocacy in the Arts from the Florida Higher Education Arts Network was a very special moment in my academic career. I believe access to arts and culture is positively correlated to a community’s quality of life and each person, no matter their financial capabilities, level of education, or demographics, deserves the opportunity to create and consume art. I advocate for the arts because I care about the future of arts and culture. If you care, you’re already an advocate! All you have to do is share what arts and culture means to you.
Florida’s Arts & Culture Day is sponsored by the Florida Cultural Alliance (FCA). FCA is a statewide network that appreciates what Florida’s arts and culture does for our creative spirit and economy. FCA strongly emphasizes how Arts & Culture is a part of the solution to many problems that Florida faces today, such as tourism, crime prevention, health and wellness, and the revitalization of community areas.
In addition, Florida Arts & Culture Day also allows members to demonstrate their support for the arts by voicing their opinions with Tallahassee legislation, learning the status of legislative issues impacting the arts, and networking opportunities.
Once again, congratulations Juyeon and Marit!
