Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania is currently accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track Professor of Art Therapy position. The position is to begin in late August, 2015.

Teaching responsibilities include a four-course undergraduate Art Therapy sequence including the following: Introduction to Art Therapy, Materials and Methods, Practices, and Senior Seminar. Curriculum includes the history of the profession, founding practitioners, approaches, populations, settings, directives, professionalism and experiential learning, including proposals, implementation, reflection and closure. The Career Services office facilitates an internship course. Depending on qualifications, interest, and experience, the candidate may also have opportunity to teach a course in a secondary area of expertise such as art appreciation or studio practice.
Other responsibilities include the following: advising and directing the program major, which includes 20-25 art therapy students; serving as faculty advisor for the Art Therapy student organization; attending Art Department faculty meetings; and participating in Sophomore Review and other Art Department initiatives.
Qualifications:
The art therapy classroom, with an adjoining office, features an abundance of natural light and secure storage space, including substantial supplies in 2-d and 3-d media.
Located near Lake Erie in Erie, PA, Mercyhurst is close to major metropolitan areas including Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Buffalo and affords the conveniences of a large city with the friendliness of a small town. Presque Isle State Park, a peninsula on Lake Erie, offers 11 miles of recreational paths, beaches, and lagoons. The health and therapeutic care community in the Erie region is strong and varied. Art therapy students find many opportunities for internships and collaborations with psychiatric hospitals and community arts organizations.
