4th Annual MEX Field Trip to The Ringling Museum – Recap

Published March 2, 2018

Every year, Museum Education and Visitor-Centered Exhibitions (MEX) faculty and students visit John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida. This past weekend, on February 23rd and 24th, 2018. Dr. Ann Rowson Love’s Visitor-Centered Exhibitions class and Dr. Pat Villeneuve’s Art Museum Education class participated in the 4th annual field trip to The Ringling Museum.

MEX students were provided the opportunity to meet Ringling staff and museum and cultural heritage studies interns and participate in the members opening of Toni Dove: Embodied Machines. MEX faculty and students also viewed the Kotler Coville Glass Pavilion and were introduced to the exhibition by former Ringling curator and curator of the exhibition, Matthew McLendon. After experiencing the James Turrell’s Joseph’s Coat, students were able to interact with current interns about a visitor study in the permanent collection with Dr. Rowson Love. They experienced the Hank Willis Thomas’s  Branded/UnBranded exhibition and finished their field trip by visiting the John and Mable Ringling’s historic home, the Ca’ d’Zan.

To participate in next year’s field trip to The Ringling, sign up for either Visitor-Centered Exhibitions (ARE5256) or Art Museum Education (ARE5295) during class registration for the FSU spring semester!
