Recently started a new position as Stewardship and Communications Officer at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. Previously, Douglass was at Brooklyn Botanic Garden for 4 years working in major gifts and the capital campaign. While at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, she earned “Ten Star Member” status from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), and received a Young Professionals Educational Fund Scholarship from the AFP-NYC chapter to further her professional development.
Although her current position is in donor relations/development and not directly related to the arts, her supervisors were specifically looking for someone with the combination of a creative/artistic and nonprofit administration background. Therefore, her MA in Arts Administration gave her the perfect educational background for that – including fundraising coursework. She has also found that there are areas at Moffitt that include more artistic and holistic components, such as the arts in medicine program.
I feel this shows that an arts administration degree can be very flexible and provide you with a breadth of experience for a variety of career opportunities.
