Evie Soape

Art Education

Evie Soape is a board-certified art therapist, licensed mental health counselor, and certified trauma specialist. She completed her master’s in art therapy at Florida State University and has worked in the field for nearly 10 years. For the past 5 years she has worked as an art therapist for an Art Therapy in Prisons Program developed through a partnership between Florida State University and the Florida Department of Corrections and is now the administrative director for the program.  She provides individual and group art therapy services for incarcerated men in two adult male correctional facilities in Florida. Her current research focuses on challenges and benefits of art therapy services in various prison settings and utilizes creativity and art making to mitigate obstacles with learning and improve executive functioning.

Research Areas

Ms. Soape’s research interests include forensic art therapy in correctional settings, identity reconstruction, trauma transformation, cognitive-behavioral art therapy, and mindfulness practices.

Her current research focuses on challenges and benefits of art therapy services in various prison settings and utilizes creativity and art making to mitigate obstacles with learning and improve executive functioning.
